What makes a Vienna survey specific

Brick, stucco and fire walls

Viennese period buildings attenuate radio many times more than modern plasterboard. An access point that reaches two rooms in a new build often stops at the first load-bearing wall here. That changes not only the number of devices but their positions — and those are only decided after measuring on site.

A crowded radio band

In densely built districts, dozens of foreign networks are regularly visible on 2.4 GHz. Simply turning up transmit power there makes things worse for everyone, including yourself. What works is channel planning, consistent use of 5 or 6 GHz and access points that steer clients onto the better band.

Cable routes in existing buildings

An access point needs a network cable — and in a period building that is the actual planning task. Where risers are missing, façades are protected or the rented space spans several floors, the feasible cable route decides the positions. We therefore plan survey and cabling together, not one after the other.

Guest Wi-Fi in retail and hospitality

Where customers join the Wi-Fi, they belong in a separate network, technically separated from the business network rather than just given a different password. Point-of-sale systems, ordering terminals and accounting have no business on the same network as a guest's phone.

Technical questions about this project

Three things drive the price: the area and its building fabric, the number of access points required and above all the effort for cabling in an existing building. A serious figure therefore only emerges after a walkthrough — a flat price without looking at the building is guesswork in a period property. The first conversation including an assessment costs nothing.

For a flat, often yes; for a business, rarely. A repeater halves the available bandwidth because it receives and sends on the same band, and in an environment with many neighbouring networks it amplifies the interference too. For continuous coverage across several rooms, cabled access points with coordinated channel planning are the sounder solution.

First a walkthrough with measurement of the actual radio conditions, including the foreign networks around you. From that comes a plan with positions, device selection and cable routes. After installation we measure again and adjust, so that coverage is right in the building and not only on the plan.

Visible cable runs, drilling into façades or interventions in protected elements are not freely available there. That narrows the possible positions and makes planning more demanding, not impossible: usually a solution can be found through existing conduits, suspended ceilings or available shafts. Coordination with owner and authority belongs before the installation, not after.
